This session Miles Worner of the Glamorgan Home Guard Living History Group came and with Richard Williams to give us a talk on D-Day and to show us some of their equipment that might have been used during this time. We learnt about the uniforms, maps and weapons of the forced involved in the operation, which was a key stepping stone in the walk to freedom and the end of the German rule in Europe in World War II.
On June 6th 1944, the largest invasion in history took place for the liberation of France and Europe still under the grasp of Nazi Germany. 175,000 troops landed on 6 June 1944. 195,700 Allied naval and Merchant Navy personnel in over 5,000 ships were involved in a fierce campaign that took 77 days to accomplish and cost more than 10,000 allied lives.
