February - Finders Keepers?

In our February session we were delighted to have with us Mark Lodwick of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and also members of the Swansea Metal Detector’s Club.

Mark opened the session by telling us about the Portable Antiquities Scheme and how important it is to be responsible if you find anything that might be covered by the Treasure Act. He also told us how important Metal Detector’s are and how Archaeologists should work along side them. This is shown by having one on excavation to scan the spoil heaps encase anything is missed and also they are important in locating important Archaeological sites.

The members of the Swansea Metal Detector’s Club then went on to tell us all about their equipment that they use and also the number of different finds these have brought to light.

It was brilliant to get the two different areas coming together and working as a team, also to see some of their amazing finds.
